Global Hunger Index 2021: The list of Global Hunger Index (GHI) 2021 has been released. According to this list, the situation of starvation in India has become more worrying than before. India has come at number 101 in the list of 116 countries. Before this, India was at number 94 in the list of 2020. India has been placed in the “alarming” hunger category in the Global Hunger Index report. India has also lagged behind Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh in terms of hunger. Although India’s neighboring countries Nepal, Bangladesh, Myanmar, and Pakistan have also been placed in the “alarming” hunger category, but still these countries have performed better than India in the hunger index.
Congress leader Kapil Sibal, while tweeting on this matter, targeted the Modi government at the Center. Sibal has questioned the government’s claims of eradicating poverty, eradicating hunger and making India a global power.

In this list of 116 countries, only 15 countries are behind India. India’s GHI score also declined
In the year 2020, India was ranked 94th out of 107 countries in this index. Now it has come to 101st place out of 116 countries. Not only this, India’s GHI score has also declined. India’s GHI score in the year 2000 was 38.8. It has fallen to the level of 28.8 – 27.5 in the year 2012-2021. The GHI score is calculated on the basis of four parameters. These are the four parameters – undernutrition, child wasting (children under five who are underweight for height), child stunting (children under five who are short for their age) and child mortality. Rate (mortality rate of children under five years of age). According to the report, child wasting in India was 17.1 percent between 1998-2002, which increased to 17.3 percent between 2016-2020.
