Thane : On the lines of the Olympics, the state-of-the-art swimming pool in the Balkum Complex of Thane has been constructed by the Municipal Administration. This swimming pool, named after the late Anand Dighe, will prepare national and international swimmers. At the same time, the swimmers around this complex are going to benefit greatly from this.
The newly constructed ‘Late Dharamveer Anand Dighe’ swimming pool was inaugurated by the foster minister Eknath Shinde in the Balkum complex under the Thane Municipal Corporation’s division number 8. On this occasion MP Rajan Vichare, MLA Ravindra Phatak, Deputy Mayor Pallavi Kadam, Standing Committee President Sanjay Bhoir, Auditorium Leader Ashok Vaiti, Transport Committee Chairman Vilas Joshi, Shiv Sena leader Dilip Bartakke, Majiwada-Manpada Division Committee Chairman Bhushan Bhoir, Senior Corporator Devram Bhoir, Corporator Naresh Manera, Local corporator Usha Bhoir, Additional Commissioner (1) Sandeep Malvi, Additional Commissioner (2) Sanjay Herwade, Municipal Engineer Prashant Songra, Deputy Commissioner Manish Joshi, Ashok Burpalle, Additional Municipal Engineer Arjun Ahire, Executive Engineer Mohan Kalal, Sports Officer Minal Palande, swimmers, coaches and local people were present.

Inaugurating the swimming pool, Guardian Minister Eknath Shinde said that the players of Thane are shining in various sports at the national and international level due to the excellent facilities being provided by the Municipal Corporation for sports. The 6th Late Dharamveer Anand Dighe of Thane Municipal Corporation, “Swimming Bridge” is being handed over to the residents of Thane today. He said that Dharamveer Anand Dighe had a special attachment to the Balkum region. He also thanked Sanjay Bhoir, chairman of the standing committee, senior corporator Devram Bhoir and all the office bearers, local corporators and municipal administration for naming Dharamveer Anand Dighe.

Thane’s largest swimming bridge
Standing Committee Chairman Sanjay Bhoir told that in the year 2016, NCP supremo Sharad Pawar had laid the foundation of this swimming bridge. The construction work was delayed due to the global pandemic Corona. He said that in the first phase, the approval of Rs 10 crore was received from the municipal administration. While in the second phase Rs 11 crore was spent. However some work still remains to be done. Therefore, the Urban Development Department has given approval to give Rs.9 crore. Bhoir told that the length of “Late Dharamveer Anand Dighe Swimming Pool” is 50 meters and width is 25 meters, which is the largest swimming bridge in Thane. He told that an Olympic size swimming pool has been built. It consists of 5 ft to 6 ft 7 in depth, a weaving gallery and floor plus 3-storey utility building with administrative offices on the ground floor, reception area, snack bar, store room, rest room, locker room, changing cum shower room, Pump room, gymnasium and rest room for men and women on first floor, store room indoor games and rest room on second floor and cafeteria and rest room on third floor have been constructed.
