Bilaspur: Mother-Son has died due to drowning in the river in Bilaspur district of Chhattisgarh. At the same time, a woman and child have been saved. Police officials of Bilaspur district said here on Monday that Smita Lal (40) and her son Avesh (14) died after drowning in the Arpa river near Lofandi village under Koni police station area of the district. While Priyanka Kashyap and her five-year-old son have been rescued.
Police officials said that eight members of three families residing in Jarhabhata area of Bilaspur city had gone to the banks of Arpa river near Lofandi village for a picnic on Sunday afternoon. He told that when everyone was close to the Pathraghat of the river, Smita Lal, Avesh, Priyanka Kashyap and their five-year-old son went to the island built in the middle of the river. After staying there for some time, when he tried to cross the river from the other side, Smita and Avesh slipped and drowned in deep water.

At the same time, Priyanka also slipped along with her child. When Priyanka’s scream was heard by her husband Saurabh, she somehow pulled out his wife and child, but by then Smita and Avesh were submerged in water. Police officials said that seeing the mother-son drowning, other family members called nearby villagers there and the police were also informed about it.
He said that after getting the information, the police reached the spot. Later, with the help of the villagers, the police recovered the dead bodies of the mother and son from a deep pit at some distance. Police officials said that Smita and Avesh were traced within about 45 minutes of the incident, but by then both had died of drowning. The police later sent both the bodies for post-mortem. He told that Smita Lal was a teacher in the Government New Primary School located in Jarhabhata area of the city. Police have registered a case and investigation is on.
