Former Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) Vinod Rai has named Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam among those pressurizing him to not include former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s name in the CAG report in the 2G spectrum allocation case. He has apologized unconditionally on the mention. Rai had mentioned Nirupam’s name in his book with MPs who had reportedly pressured him not to name former PM Manmohan Singh in the CAG report.
In 2014, Nirupam filed a defamation suit against Rai after the former CAG made the allegations in his book and reiterated it in interviews to the media. The Metropolitan Magistrate’s court at Patiala House, accepting Rai’s apology, recorded Nirupam’s statement and disposed of the matter.

Nirupam’s lawyer RK Handu told that Vinod Rai has been acquitted in the case. Since Nirupam has accepted his apology, the matter has been settled after recording his statement. The former CAG, in an affidavit filed in the court, has said that he has inadvertently and wrongly mentioned Nirupam’s name earlier.
At the same time, Vinod Rai said in his affidavit that I had inadvertently and wrongly mentioned the name of Sanjay Nirupam as one of the MPs who attended the meetings of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) or the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC). On the sidelines of its meetings, the CAG report on 2G spectrum allocation had put pressure on the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to keep his name out of it.
The former CAG has also said that the statements made by him against the Congress leader are factually incorrect. In his affidavit filed in the court, Rai said, “I understand that my statement has hurt Sanjay Nirupam, his family and his well-wishers and I want to apologize unconditionally for the same.” I hope Sanjay Nirupam will consider and accept my unconditional apology and close the issue.
Meanwhile, Congress termed Nod Rai as a “puppet” and said that it was the CBI that made it clear that former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh had no role in the Kol case. Vinod Rai should also apologize to the people of the country.
Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera said in a press conference on Friday that former CAG Vinod Roy was exposed, the decision of the CBI court came on December 21. After which Vinod Rai also accepted that he lied to the country, Vinod Roy apologized unconditionally to Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam. All these people who kept accusing the UPA government, today they are enjoying power.
