Sironcha, The main crop of the tehsil is paddy, but crops like chilli, cotton, turmeric are also taken in the tehsil. Paddy crops as well as cotton and chilli crops have been hit extensively due to unseasonal rains for the past few days. Due to the accumulation of water in the field, the possibility of withering of chilli plants has been created. Due to which the concerns of the farmers have increased.
The farmers of Tehsil used to cultivate paddy by traditional method. But now many farmers of Tehsil are doing different types of farming using modern technology. It mainly includes crops like chilli, cotton, aldi, soybean etc. Through these crops, the farmer is becoming financially advanced. But due to the unseasonal rains in the last few days, the farmers’ concern has increased due to the destruction of the crops in the hands of the farmers.
Asaralli, Ankisa, Vaddham, Pantipaka, Sironcha, Janampalli, Nagaram, Narayanpur, Amravati, Rangayyapalli, Bamani, Tekada, Reguntha, Parsevada, Moyabinpetha in these villages of Tehsil Asaralli, Parsevada, Moyabinpetha produce large quantities of cotton and chillies. Cotton picking and chilli harvesting start in the month of January.
The broken chillies are dried and sold during this period. But due to the sudden unseasonal rains, there has been extensive loss to the farmers producing chillies. Chilli plants are likely to wither due to accumulation of rain water in the field. Due to which the farmers are expressing the fear of a huge financial blow.
Traditional farming due to lack of irrigation
Due to lack of irrigation facilities in these villages Jhinganur, Korla, Koppela, Rameshgudam, Patagudam of Tehsil, the farmers of this area have been doing farming even today with the traditional method. It mainly includes crops like sorghum, mung, sesame, barbati along with paddy. Near this complex is the river Indravati flowing through Barsamari. Still, due to lack of irrigation facility, farmers have to cultivate on rain water only. If there is a system of irrigation, farmers can become Sujalam, Safulam by taking crops again.
demand for cotton ginning
The farmers of Tehsil take large quantity of cotton production. But due to non-availability of ginning mill in Sironcha or near ginning mill, farmers have to sell cotton by taking ginning mill hundreds of km away or in other states. The farmers have to bear the financial blow of this. As a result, farmers are selling cotton to the brokers at low prices. Due to which the demand for construction of ginning mill at the local level is being made by the farmers of the tehsil.
