In the fourth test match of the Ashes series (Ashes Series AUS vs ENG, 2021-2022), England scored a half century by Jonny Bairstow and Ben Stokes’ half-century. After the start, he returned to the match on Friday, the third day of the match. This is the seventh innings batting after 6 innings played by England in this latest series. For the first time in these innings played so far, a century has been scored by a batsman from England. At one point, England’s score in this innings was just 36 runs for 4 wickets, but, Jonny Bairstow and Ben Stokes took their good performances to 258 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. England batsman Jonny Bairstow, who was seen moaning in pain after being hit on the thumb by Australia’s deadly fast bowler Pat Cummins, took the pain. Also, didn’t get distracted by the wickets falling at the other end. He completed his century in 138 balls with the help of 12 scintillating fours and 3 superb sixes. It was worth noting that after this he celebrated the seventh century of his international career by running towards the England dressing room with both arms open.
By the end of the third day’s play, Jonny Bairstow 103 and Jack Leach 4 runs at the crease. England’s team is still 158 runs behind Australia. Let us remind you that earlier Ben Stokes had scored 66 runs in 91 balls with the help of 9 fours and 1 six. He shared a 128-run partnership with Jonny Bairstow in this innings and rescued his derailed England team from trouble. Ben Stokes became LBW off Australia’s deadly bowler Nathan Lyon and will head towards the pavilion. Ben Stokes got life twice in the batting of this innings. One, when bowler Pat Cummins missed his catch on his own ball, and second, he managed to stay on after reviewing the LBW on-field umpire’s decision.

Significantly, when Ben Stokes was on 9, his return catch was missed by Cummins. Had he been out at the time, England would have lost 5 wickets for less than 50 runs. He was then given out lbw off Cameron Green, but he immediately resorted to review and survived. Jos Butler was run for the second time in a row. Usman Khawaja made no mistake in taking his catch at cover off Pat Cummins’s delivery. After this Jonny Bairstow and Mark Wood (Mark Wood scored 39 runs) shared a partnership of 72 runs. Mark Wood also became a victim of Cummins. Shot off his ball and Nathan Lyon caught it.
