Voting on January 18 for open category elections in 18 seats of OBC quota in 5 municipalities of the district
YavatmalAfter the appeal of the state government and the Supreme Court’s decision regarding the 27 percent political reservation of OBCs in local self-government institutions, now these reserved seats will be unreserved and will vote on January 18 under the open general category. Whereas under the pre-announced program, the present Voting will be held on December 21 for the ongoing municipal elections.
It is worth mentioning that except Jhari Nagar Panchayat in Yavatmal district, there was a total reservation of 18 seats for OBC category in 5 Nagar Panchayats Kalamb, Maregaon, Babhulgaon, Mahagaon and Ralegaon, but these reserved seats on the background of the court decision during filing of nomination papers. But the papers of the candidates were not filed. Now recently, after the decision of the Supreme Court, after the orders of the Election Commission, it has been decided to unreserve these 18 seats in the district and hold a separate election on January 18.
The election process will be adopted independently by filing nomination papers in 18 seats of 5 municipalities of the district. According to the predetermined election schedule, on 21 December 2021, after this, on 18 seats from the unreserved and open category, voting will be held on 18 January. After this, the counting of votes of all the 6 municipalities will now be held on 19 January 2022 instead of 22 December, such information was given after getting the local election department from the State Election Commission on the afternoon of 17 December.
According to the election schedule announced by the State Election Commission, polling was to be held on December 21, 2021 for all the seats in the general elections of 106 Municipal Panchayats, Bhandara, Gondia Zilla Parishad and 15 Panchayat Samitis under it, as well as 4 vacant seats of the four Municipal Corporations and four vacant seats. Voting was to be taken on the same day for by-elections of 4 thousand 554 village panchayats, 7 thousand 130 vacant seats. According to the order of the Supreme Court on 6 December 2021, the election process for the backward category OBC seats of citizens of all these elections was postponed, the election process for all other seats is starting as planned.
According to the order of the Supreme Court on December 15, 201D, now a new election program has been announced to fill the seats of the backward category of citizens from the general category by unreserving immediately. Due to which the reserved seats of OBC are declared from the open category, there will also be a separate draw at the respective places to keep these seats reserved for women.
