Mumbai: The State Election Commission has issued a notification of delimitation of new wards in Mumbai and sent it to BMC Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal. With this, the election season has also started in Mumbai. The state government had decided to increase the number of wards of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation from 227 to 236 before the BMC 2022 elections. All the parties were demanding OBC reservation in Mumbai, but at present the meeting of the Backward Commission on OBC reservation is going on.
Before that the State Election Commission has issued the notification for the election. It has been decided that the Mumbai Municipal Elections will be conducted without OBC reservation. Complaints and suggestions will be sought from February 1 to February 14 by putting the notification issued by the Commission on BMC on its domain.

On February 16, the BMC will submit the information of the suggestion objection on delimitation from Mumbaikars to the Election Commission. The complaints and suggestions received from its people will be disposed of from February 16 to February 26. The final list will be given on March 2, after that the lottery of reservation of wards will be declared after that.
2 seat reserve for ST 15 ST
In the elections to be held with new wards, the ward reservation of AC and ST has been kept, while the OBC reservation column has been kept blank. Of the 236 seats in Mumbai, 15 seats have been reserved for SC and 2 for ST.
118 seats for women
118 seats have been reserved for women. Out of which 8 SC and 1 seat for ST women, the remaining 109 seats will be for general women category. Male candidates will try their luck in the remaining 219 seats.
