Kapurthala/Punjab: The man, who was beaten to death over an alleged sabotage attempt at a gurdwara in Kapurthala, has more than eight deep marks of stab wounds on his neck and other parts of his body, most likely of a sword. A senior medical officer of the local government hospital gave this information on Monday.
The Kapurthala incident came a day after a similar incident took place at Amritsar’s Golden Temple in which another man was lynched to death over alleged sacrilege on Saturday. Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Harjinder Singh Dhami on Monday said there is a “big conspiracy” behind the alleged sabotage attempt at the Golden Temple. He said it appeared as if the person involved had undergone “commando training”.

Dhami also claimed that the law allows someone to kill in self-defense. He said this must have happened when the mob killed the man after an alleged sabotage attempt. Police have registered complaints regarding alleged sacrilege in both the cases but no FIR has been registered. The police have released the manager of Kapurthala Gurdwara Amarjeet Singh, who was taken into custody on Sunday night for questioning.
Initially, the police had said that there was no visible sign of sacrilege in the Gurdwara. Kapurthala Senior Superintendent of Police Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh said that they received some documents from a woman in Bihar but upon verification it was found that these papers do not identify the person.
Police said that a case of murder has not yet been registered in this case and their priority is to identify the person, for which they have shared his photographs in the media and with the police of other states. An unidentified man was murdered by a mob after he was accused of disrespecting the ‘Nishan Sahib’ (religious flag) of Sikhism at a gurdwara in Nizampur village here on Sunday morning. This person appeared to be a migrant laborer.
Sandeep Dhawan, senior medical officer of the civil hospital, said the man had more than eight deep marks of stab wounds on his neck and other parts of the body, most likely of a sword. Apart from this, there are other injury marks as well. He said the full details of the injuries would be known only after the postmortem. The body has been kept in the local morgue.
Khakh said that the postmortem will be done 72 hours after no claimant of the dead body comes in the case. The SSP has entrusted the responsibility of investigating the matter to Kotwali police station in-charge Prabhadeep Singh. He said that no FIR has been registered so far. (agency)
