Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday said that continuous efforts are being made to make the annual pilgrimage to the holy cave shrine of Amarnath situated at a height of 3,880 meters in the Himalayas “comfortable, modern and safe” for the devotees. He said that his administration is also committed to providing ‘langars and bhandaras (community kitchen service providers)’ apart from providing world-class facilities for the pilgrims during their visit to the holy cave.
An official spokesperson said here that the Lt Governor was in talks with members of various associations of ‘langars and bhandars’, which serve the pilgrims during the Yatra. The yatra takes place in summer via Pahalgam in south Kashmir and Baltal in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.
The official said that 20 members representing Shri Amarnath Barfani Langar Sangathan (SABLO) and Shri Amarnath Yatra Bhandara Sangathan (SAYBO) met the Lieutenant Governor in Delhi and discussed various aspects of smooth conduct of the Yatra. The Lt Governor said, “The holy yatra is a symbol of compassion, spirituality, service and peace. Continuous efforts are being made to make the Yatra more comfortable, modern and safe for the pilgrims.”
The spokesman said that Sinha informed the representatives of the associations about the improvement in facilities and infrastructure development for the passengers in the last two years. He said that the Lieutenant Governor took note of the fact that three Yatri Niwas are being constructed to provide better food and accommodation facilities to the pilgrims to visit the cave temple.
