Diesel Vehicles: The Delhi government has canceled the registration of one lakh vehicles which are more than 10 years old. Giving this information, an official said that now the owners of these diesel vehicles have the option of either getting electric kits installed or selling them in other states by taking no objection certificate.
15 year old petrol vehicles will also be deregistered
An official of the Delhi Transport Department said that in the coming days, petrol vehicles older than 15 years will also be deregistered. The number of these old petrol vehicles is estimated to be more than 43 lakhs, which includes 32 lakh two wheelers and 11 lakh cars. The transport department warned that if a diesel vehicle older than 10 years or a petrol vehicle more than 15 years old is found plying on the road, it will be confiscated and sent for scrapping.

Vehicle owners now have these options
The official said owners of 10-year-old diesel vehicles can get the electric kit installed or sold in other states by taking a no objection certificate (NOC) from the transport department. “As per the direction of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the Delhi government has canceled the registration of 1,01,247 diesel vehicles which have completed 10 years with effect from January 1, 2022,” he said. These include about 87,000 cars, while the rest are goods carriers, buses and tractors.
“If the owners of such vehicles want to re-register in other states, they can apply for NOC online,” the official said.
How much will it cost to install an electric kit
The Transport Department has empaneled eight electric kit manufacturers to install electric kits in vehicles. The department is also in talks with other manufacturers. Automobile experts said retrofitting of old diesel and petrol cars and four wheelers would cost Rs 3 to 5 lakh, depending on the battery capacity and range. He said the cost of retrofitting of two wheelers and three wheelers would be lower depending on the type of battery and manufacturers.

The electric kit from Etrio Automobile included in the panel can be used in both petrol and diesel four wheelers. It includes a 17.3 kWh battery with a range of over 106 km. Other manufacturers on the panel are 3EV Industries, BUMA Innovative Transport Solutions Renewable, Zero 21 Renewable Energy Solutions, VELEV Motors India Pvt Ltd. They all have electric kits with different battery capacities for two, three and four wheelers. BOOM’s kit for petrol two wheelers comes with a battery capacity of 2.016 kW and a range of 65.86 km.
Exemption from Aadhar card authentication for foreigners
In another order, the department has exempted deregistered vehicles working in embassies and high commissions and in case of MNC workers and Indian nationals residing abroad, the department has exempted Aadhaar card authentication for NOC for the purpose of transfer. NOC issued by the department will not be for those places which have been restricted for registration by the states. The NGT has directed the states to identify areas where air circulation is high and vehicular density is low.
