Jammu. Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police Dilbag Singh said on Saturday that a minor scuffle between some youth led to a stampede in the Vaishno Devi shrine area in which unfortunately 12 people died.

Talking to PTI, he said that the incident is extremely unfortunate and the situation was brought under control by the police and other officials in time. Singh said that as per the preliminary information received from the spot, some young boys had a fight over some issue and within seconds a stampede broke out.

“Police and administration officials responded quickly and order was immediately restored to the crowd but the damage was done by that time,” he said. “The injured were immediately rushed to nearby hospitals,” the police chief said. He said that 15 people were injured in the incident.
