New Delhi: Claiming that the main contest in the Goa Assembly election 2022 will be between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and his party, senior Congress leader P Chidambaram said on Monday that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had given his name to him. Has “confirmed” the assessment that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Trinamool Congress (TMC) will only “divide” non-BJP votes.
AAP convener Kejriwal hit back at Chidambaram, saying Chidambaram should “stop crying” as voting for the Congress means voting for the BJP and the people of Goa will vote about it where they see hope. A day earlier, Kejriwal had said that his party was ready to be a part of the coalition government if Goa gets a fractured mandate in the February 14 assembly elections.

Chidambaram, Congress’ senior election observer for the Goa Assembly elections, appealed to the voters of Goa to cast their vote for change in governance and elect the Congress. “My assessment that you (and the TMC) will only fragment the non-BJP votes in Goa has been confirmed by Arvind Kejriwal. The contest in Goa is between the Congress and the BJP.”
In a series of tweets, Chidambaram said, “Those who want to change governance (after 10 years of misrule) will vote for Congress. Those who want this rule to continue, they will vote for the BJP.” He said that the option before the voters in Goa is clear. Congress leader asked whether you people want change in governance or not.
“I appeal to the voters of Goa to change the regime and vote for the Congress,” Chidambaram said. Retweeting his tweet, Kejriwal hit back at him, “Sir, stop crying – ‘Hi re, mar gaye re, hamare vote kata ke re’.” The people of Goa will vote where they see hope.”
Kejriwal claimed, “Congress is a hope for the BJP, not the people of Goa. Of the 17 Congress MLAs, 15 switched to the BJP. The Congress guarantees that every vote it gets will go to the BJP safely. The safe way to vote for the BJP is through the Congress.” Voting for all 40 assembly seats in Goa is to be held on February 14. (agency)
