Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has asked the common citizens to stay safe and not let the lack of water in the body and go out in the afternoon in view of the scorching heat wave situation in Mumbai and neighboring districts. urged to escape. The BMC said that the person suffering from heatstroke should be immediately taken to the hospital. It also advised people to increase their intake of water and other hygienic fluids.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an ‘Orange Alert’ (severe heat wave conditions in some parts) for Tuesday and a ‘Yellow Alert’ (Luo condition at isolated places) for Wednesday. The IMD has forecast the maximum temperature in Mumbai to be around 40 degrees Celsius for the next two days. According to the Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature of 39.6 degrees Celsius was recorded in suburban Santa Cruz on Monday.
In the wake of the IMD’s warning, the Mumbai civic body took to Twitter to inform citizens about the ‘dos and don’ts’ and asked them to “drink plenty of water and stay safe”. The BMC also asked people to avoid stepping out in the sun, especially between 12 noon to 3 pm, to reduce the effect of heatwave and prevent the possibility of serious illness or death due to heat wave.

The BMC suggested people to carry water while going out in the afternoon. “Drink enough water and drink as often as possible, even when you are not thirsty,” the BMC said. It also asked people to avoid tea, coffee, soft drinks, high protein and stale food and suggested that people use hats or umbrellas and moisturise the head, neck, face and exposed limbs if they work outside. Use clothes.
The BMC also asked people to take ORS (oral rehydration salt) and homemade drinks like lassi, torani (rice water), lemonade and buttermilk, which help in replenishing the water loss in the body. It says to use a fan and take frequent baths with cold water.

“If a person faints or falls ill, he should immediately see a doctor,” the BMC said. The BMC also suggested that if a person is exposed to heatstroke, he should lie down in a cool place under the shade. Wiping the body with a wet cloth or washing it frequently and pouring normal temperature water on the head should be done. Also the person should be immediately taken to the nearest hospital.
