Rains begin in Tamil Nadu
Rain has started in Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu. According to IMD, Chennai and Meenambakkam received 120 mm of rain from 08:30 yesterday till 5:30 this morning. Apart from this, heavy rains have also started in Kanchipuram in Tamil Nadu.
IndiGo canceled 49 flights, trains were also canceled
In view of the danger of cyclone prevention, IndiGo flights has canceled 49 flights to or from southern regions, mainly from Chennai. IndiGo has issued a statement saying that a decision will be taken regarding the flights on 26 November, taking stock of the situation today.

On November 24, a day before, Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba held a meeting with the National Disaster Management Committee (NCMC) through video conferencing for prevention. In this meeting, besides the Chief Ministers of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Andhra Pradesh, secretaries of several ministries were also involved.
Low-lying areas were evacuated in Puducherry
The Chief Minister of Puducherry has said that the Central Control Room, along with the Disaster Management Control of the state, is helping people. He informed that the lower areas have been evacuated and they are being provided food, water, hand sanitizers and face masks. Fishermen have been advised not to go to sea.
Section 144 applies in Puducherry
In view of the possibility of a cyclonic storm, the District Magistrate in Puducherry has imposed Section 144 last night i.e. on 24 November from 9 am to 26 November 6 am. This order will be applicable throughout Puducherry. All shops will remain closed. Only milk stations, petrol stations and pharmacies will be open.

Advice for stock of essential commodities
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswamy has asked his cabinet colleagues and officials to be completely vigilant and take necessary steps to minimize the damage caused by the weather system. The Chief Minister has said that six teams of NDRF should be stationed in Cuddalore and two in Chennai. Revenue Minister RB Udayakumar has said that people living in low-lying areas should immediately go to relief camps and people should keep stock of essential commodities in areas where there is a possibility of heavy rains. Public holiday is declared in Tamil Nadu today for prevention.

30 teams of NDRF will help
30 teams of NDRF have been prepared to start relief and rescue operations in view of cyclonic storm prevention. A team of NDRF consists of about 35 to 45 personnel. The number of jawans is determined in view of the work in the affected areas. They have trees and pillar cutting machines, general medicines and other resources to help the affected. These teams will be deployed in coordination with the local authorities for relief and rescue operations, including helping to evacuate the local people from the affected areas.
