With this, the total cases of infection in the country increased to 3,71,22,164. According to the Union Health Ministry, these include 7,743 cases of the Omicron variant of the corona virus. According to the last 24 hours, the positivity rate was recorded at 16.28 percent, while in the last one week the positivity rate was 13.69 percent.

In the last 24 hours, 1,702 new cases of Omicron were reported in the country, which is the highest in terms of cases reported in a day so far. It has increased by 28.17 percent since Saturday. According to experts, it is not possible to do genome sequencing of all cases. Experts stressed that this wave of virus is mainly due to Omicron.

Number of active patients highest in 225 days
According to the data, the maximum number of active patients in the country was recorded at 15,50,377 in the last 225 days, while the death toll has increased to 4,86,066 with the death of 314 patients. Out of 314 new cases of death, 106 patients are from Kerala and 39 from West Bengal. Out of 4,86,066 deaths in the country so far, the maximum number of 1,41,779 patients died in Maharashtra, 50,674 in Kerala, 38,418 in Karnataka, 36,967 in Tamil Nadu, 25,335 in Delhi, 22,953 in Uttar Pradesh and 20,052 died in West Bengal.
