New Delhi: The cases of Corona are increasing day by day. Now its new variant Omicron has also started creating havoc in the world. Almost every country is going through the outbreak of this variant. In such a situation, due to the arrival of Omicron, a third wave is also being feared in the country. Meanwhile, while giving information on Wednesday, the Union Health Ministry said that there has been a huge increase in the cases of corona in the last 8 days in India.
Addressing the media, the Union Health Ministry said, “India has registered an increase of more than 6.3 times in cases in the last 8 days. In terms of positivity, a sharp increase was observed from 0.79 per cent on 29 December 2021 to 5.03 per cent on 5 January. India witnessed an increase of 58,097 new corona virus infections in a day, the highest in nearly 199 days, taking the total number of cases to 3,50,18,358.

The ministry further said that the states of concern are Maharashtra, West Bengal, Delhi, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Jharkhand, Gujarat, where cases have increased. The 28 districts of the country are reporting positive cases in more than 10% weekly reports.
The health ministry said, 25.2 lakh cases were reported globally on January 4, which is the highest ever since the start of the pandemic. About 65% of the cases in the week ending January 4 were reported from the United States, Britain, France, Italy and Spain. At the same time, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare further said that 108 deaths have been reported from Omicron globally so far.

Lav Agarwal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Health said That, In the country, 90.8% of the population above the age of 18 years has been given the first dose of the vaccine and 65.9% of the population has been given the second dose. There are 7.40 crore adolescents between 15-18 years in the country, so far 1.06 adolescents have been given the first dose of the vaccine.
The ministry said, Omicron is spreading rapidly in the cities of the country, mass gatherings should be avoided to slow down the speed of this spread. Lav Aggarwal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Health said, so far 2135 Omicron cases have been registered in the country, out of which 828 cases have been recovered. Be alert, disciplined and prepared, but don’t panic, he said. We will also face this phase of covid pandemic
He said, the precautionary dose of anti-Covid vaccine for health care workers, frontline workers, people above 60 years of age suffering from other diseases will be the same as the first two doses.
