New Delhi: After 2,82,970 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in India in a day, the number of infected in the country increased to 3,79,01,241. The total cases of infection also include 8,961 cases of ‘Omicron’ form of Coronavirus. According to the updated data released by the Union Health Ministry at 8 am on Wednesday, the number of patients under treatment for COVID-19 in the country has increased to 18,31,000, which is 4.83 percent of the total cases.
This is the highest number of patients under treatment in the country in 232 days. Last year on May 31, the number of patients under treatment was 18,95,520. An increase of 44,952 has been registered in the number of patients under treatment for COVID-19 in the last 24 hours. At the same time, after the death of 441 more people due to infection, the death toll increased to 4,87,202. The national recovery rate of patients in the country has come down to 93.88 percent. The Ministry said that since Tuesday, an increase of 0.79 percent has been registered in the cases of ‘Omicron’ nature in the country.

According to experts, genome sequencing of every infected sample is not possible, but most of the cases in this current wave are of ‘oomicron’ nature. The number of infected in the country had exceeded 20 lakh on 7 August 2020, 30 lakh on 23 August 2020 and 40 lakh on 5 September 2020.
The total cases of infection crossed 50 lakh on 16 September 2020, 60 lakh on 28 September 2020, 70 lakh on 11 October 2020, 80 lakh on 29 October 2020 and 90 lakh on 20 November that year. On 19 December 2020, these cases had crossed one crore in the country. Last year, on May 4, the number of infected had crossed 20 million and on June 23, 2021, it crossed 30 million.
