MumbaiCongress leaders and workers demonstrated across the state in protest against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks regarding the spread of COVID-19 from Maharashtra to other states. . Congress leaders said Modi has “insulted the state” by making the said statement.
Protesting at Mahatma Gandhi’s statue near ‘Mantralaya’ here, Congress state unit president Nana Patole accused Modi of calling Maharashtra a Covid-19-spreading state. Patole said, “Maharashtra has helped people in every way (during the pandemic) and Modi has no right to insult the state. The people of Maharashtra will not tolerate the humiliation of Chhatrapati Shivaji’s kingdom.”

He said that Congress leaders and workers are protesting in front of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) offices in every district of the state. Patole said that his party will continue to protest till the Prime Minister apologizes to the people of Maharashtra. Patole said Leader of Opposition in Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis should make it clear publicly whether he agrees with Modi’s statement or not, “otherwise he will be termed as anti-Maharashtra as the remark is an insult to Maharashtra”. Hence the Maharashtra unit of BJP should make its stand clear on this issue.”
