Aligarh. Congress candidate from Aligarh city Salman Imtiaz has been ordered to stay out of the district (District Badar). A senior official gave this information on Saturday. This order dated January 14 has been pasted at Imtiaz’s house on Friday. He had filed his nomination on Thursday.
Additional district magistrate (city) Rakesh Kumar Patel said, “He was banned on the ground of being a case under the Goondas Act as he was a threat to the peace of the city.” Imtiaz has also been a former president of the AMU Students Union and was earlier banned in March 2020 in view of the anti-CAA agitation at Aligarh Muslim University. Similar ban orders were also issued to several other student leaders of AMU.
Imtiaz said that he had responded to the ban order in 2020 and since then there has been no official response to his plea. “Suddenly after filing my nomination, I have been asked to leave the city and report to a police station in Kasganj district,” he said. Significantly, earlier this month, Imtiaz had sent a memorandum to the President of India seeking action against the alleged hate speeches made in Haridwar. He had also opposed the proposed ‘Dharma Sansad’ in Aligarh which was later adjourned. Congress District President Santosh Singh said that the party will challenge this order in the court.
