GadchiroliGlobal warming is becoming a serious problem in the world. We have only 8-10 years left before global warming reaches 1.5°C (as per IPCC report). Taking into account the urgent need for action to reduce climate change, solar energy becomes a public campaign for this, IIT Bombay Pvt. Chetan Singh Solanki has started 11 years of Urja Swaraj Yatra through Solar Bus. During this, the said yatra has entered Gadchiroli today. In this journey Pvt. Solanki has resolved to do this journey by staying in the bus without going home for almost 11 years.
Pvt. Chetan Singh Solanki is a teacher, scholar and researcher. He has started Urja Swaraj Yatra by solar power bus of 11 years (till 2030). In view of severe and unforeseen weather changes, this Urja Swaraj Yatra has been prepared with the aim of adopting 100% solar energy and creating a wide public campaign.
Under Gandhian ideals, he named this mass movement as ‘Urja Swaraj’. His Urja Swaraj campaign is being considered an important step towards reducing energy use, energy sustainability and climate change. He has also established the Energy Swaraj Foundation (ESF) to establish Energy Swaraj at the world level. During his journey, he is going to do all the work in the solar power bus itself. Facilities for accommodation, bathing and eating and training are available. Solanki says that this bus is his mobile home.
Will travel 2 lakh km
During the year 2019, Professor Solanki traveled to 30 countries across the world to spread the message of solar energy. He has traveled 15 thousand km before this in his commencing Urja Swaraj Yatra. He has covered more than 35 thousand people in 6 states. In this journey of 11 years, Professor Solanki is going to cross the country’s border 8-10 times, covering a distance of about 2 lakh km in 28 states.
‘Solar Gandhi’ such an identity
Let us tell you that Solanki has been honored by the Madhya Pradesh government as the brand ambassador of Solar Energy of Madhya Pradesh. The Times of India, The Hindu and India Today have named Professor Solanki as the ‘Solar Man of India’. So some people also address him by this name ‘Solar Gandhi’.

Professor Solanki has led large solar projects from IIT Bombay. Through his SOULS project he has designed solar laps using solar energy for 7.5 million houses. He has been honored with many awards till now. These awards include ‘IEEE’ Global Award, Pantpradhan’s Innovation Award for SOULS Project, First Prize for Solar Chulha Design Challenge by ONGC, 3 Guinness World Records, 2 Young Scientist Awards, CSCR Science and Technology Award, Excellence in RE Skilling and ‘Atstanding Green Activist’ etc.

Entered the district Prof. Solanki clarified the purpose of his visit while interacting with the journalists at Gondwana University today. Where did he say at this time, now there is an urgent need to act to reduce climate change. The solution is to accept energy as Swaraj or use it locally by creating energy.
