Aurangabad: Aurangabad Municipal Commissioner Astik Kumar Pandey said on Saturday that citizens will soon find a beautiful place to spend time in the natural area of Kham River. He participated in 48th consecutive weekly cleanliness and tree plantation drive. After that Commissioner Pandey gave this information.
Rejuvenation of the Kham River based on the CPG model began in January 2021 in which citizens, private partners and the government work together to rejuvenate the river. Aurangabad Municipal Corporation, Aurangabad Cantonment Board, Aurangabad Smart City Development Corporation, Vairaq Group CII, Eco Sattva and Patrakar Bandhu are working for the revival project.

There are other activities to be undertaken under the bridge project on the river. Pandey was accompanied by Vikrant More, CEO of Cantonment Board Aurangabad, Deputy Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Joshi, Vinita Shetty of Placemaking India, Akash Vairale of Village Social Transformation Foundation, Aditya Tiwari of Aurangabad Smart City, Sanitation Inspector Asadullah Khan Eco Sattva Team and Municipal Commissioner Astik Kumar Pandey’s son was Ayman. It was decided that a British-era dam would be built across the Kham River. The Special Task Force for Kham River will be restructured and strengthened.
Aastik Kumar Pandey discussed the development of urban dense forest on 1 to 1.2 acres of land on the banks of river Kham near the wall of Income Tax Office with Village Social Transformation Foundation. VSTF will also install water tanks to meet the water requirement for the dense forest “This dense forest will act as an oxygen hub for the city,” Pandey said.
Will be ready to open by January 20
The plantation done earlier this year has a survival rate of 80 per cent and seedlings have grown to 10-15 feet tall because of uninterrupted watering by the Horticulture Department. The Kids Play Park with landscaping, outdoor gym and seating area will be ready to open by January 20 next year.
A model toilet will also be built on the banks of the river.
Vinita Shetty, who works in urban development and design, discussed with the administrator and took this decision. Gaushalas and laundromats will be developed along the river so that children can know where the milk comes from and how it is washed.
