Thane: The police of Thane city of Maharashtra has arrested Hindu religious leader Kalicharan Maharaj from Chhattisgarh for allegedly making derogatory remarks against Mahatma Gandhi. Officials gave this information on Thursday. An officer of Naupada police station said that Kalicharan Maharaj was arrested on Wednesday night from Raipur, the capital of Chhattisgarh, where he was in jail in a similar case. He is being brought to Thane on transit remand and will be produced in a local court by Thursday evening.
Earlier, on December 26 last year, Kalicharan Maharaj was arrested by Raipur Police for making derogatory remarks against Mahatma Gandhi at an event held in Chhattisgarh capital. At the same time, on January 12, the police of Wardha, Maharashtra had arrested him in a similar case.

He was arrested from Raipur in connection with the case registered against Kalicharan on the basis of a complaint by Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader and Maharashtra minister Jitendra Awhad over his alleged remarks against the Father of the Nation, a Naupada police station official said.
