ChandigarhPunjab Chief Electoral Officer S Karuna Raju on Tuesday urged various departments related to students and beneficiaries of welfare schemes to complete the age of 18 by January 1 next year. Help the Election Commission to register new voters who are doing so.
Raju urged to ensure that 100 per cent eligible voters are included in the electoral rolls before the state assembly elections to be held early next year. Along with Additional CEO Amit Kumar, the CEO presided over the meeting of various government departments including technical education, employment generation, sports, medical education, health and family welfare, school education, higher education, labor department and social justice empowerment. The head of the State Election Commission had on December 21 constituted a three-member committee to identify new voters. Raju said that these departments have complete data of young voters and if these departments join hands with the CEO’s office, it can help in registering more and more eligible voters.
He asked the representatives of these departments to make maximum efforts to get the names of more and more new voters listed. Assuring all kinds of support from the CEO’s office, Raju said that they will depute Block Level Officers (BLOs) for each unit so that new voters do not face any problem in getting themselves registered as voters.
He also directed these departments to make available the information of people born between January 1, 2002 to December 31, 2003, so that they can be included in the electoral rolls and their Voters’ Photo Identity Cards (EPICs) can be generated. (agency)
