Britain’s Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on Friday that his country is ready to help and support India. Johnson, who arrived in Derbyshire for the local election campaign, told reporters that we are seeing what we can do to help the people of India. It is believed that help from the UK can reach India in the form of ventilators and medicines. At present, India is facing the second wave of Corona. Everyday millions of people are getting corona infected.
PM Johnson’s statement has come at a time when Britain has included India in the ‘Red List’ of COVID Travel Ban. People from India have been banned from entering the UK after joining the ‘Red List’. Only British and Irish people are allowed to enter the country. For this, they will have to go through a mandatory quarantine period of 10 days. At the same time, the British PM himself canceled his tour of India starting on 26 April in view of the increasing cases of Corona.
55 cases of double mutant Indian variants found in Britain
The ban was imposed by Britain when ‘Public Health England’ (PHE) confirmed 55 cases involving double mutant Indian variants, referred to as B.1.617. In this way, the number of such cases found under Variant Under Investigation (VUI) has increased to 132. Experts are currently studying whether another mutation means that it can spread faster, is more contagious and what is its effect on the vaccine.
People arriving in Britain have to self-isolate before joining the ‘Red List’
At the same time, Heathrow Airport in London said that it has refused to allow the landing of eight Indian flights. This has been done because long lines are likely to be installed at the airport, which may give the virus a chance to spread. At the same time, families and students who have reached Britain before joining the ‘Red List’ of India, have to self-isolate themselves in their homes and hostels. Also, the National Health Service (NHS) has to undergo a corona test.
Two lakh rupees extra burden on people reaching UK from India
People arriving in Britain from India before Friday will have to stay for 10 days in the government-sanctioned Hotel Quarantine facility. In addition, they will have to undergo two PCR tests. This has increased the extra weight of two thousand pounds (about two lakh rupees) on each person. A large number of Indian students are among those affected by this additional load. These students are arriving there to do on-campus studies at UK universities.
