New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday released its first list of candidates for 59 seats for the impending assembly elections in Uttarakhand. The party has once again fielded Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami as its candidate from Khatima while state president Madan Kaushik has been fielded from Haridwar assembly seat.
Union Minister and Uttarakhand election in-charge Prahlad Joshi announced the candidates in the presence of BJP General Secretary Arun Singh and Rajya Sabha MP Anil Baluni. The party has changed candidates in 10 seats. The BJP will go into the elections with the slogan “Kiya hai, karte karte karte rahej hain” (has done, will do and will do),” Joshi said. He claimed that whatever development has taken place in Uttarakhand, it happened only during the period of BJP governments. He claimed that the BJP would form the government with a thumping majority in the upcoming elections.

Voting for the 70-member Uttarakhand assembly is to be held in a single phase on February 14. In the elections, there is a possibility of a tough fight once again between the ruling BJP of the state and the main opposition party Congress. However, experts believe that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which is contesting elections in the state for the first time, can also affect the equations of both the parties in some seats.
The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and the Uttarakhand Kranti Dal (Ukrand), which is the leader of the separate state movement, are also trying to regain their lost influence. The people of Uttarakhand, which came into existence in the year 2000, have never handed over power to any political party again. BJP is taking pride in breaking this myth in this election.
In the last assembly elections, the BJP had formed the government by winning 57 seats, while the Congress had won 11 seats. Independent candidates had won two seats.
