Farmer leaders have said that more and more people have come to support the bandh. Apart from about a dozen political parties, more than 10 central trade unions have also supported the bandh.
What will be closed, who is exempt
- Shops and businesses will remain closed during Bharat Bandh.
- Farmer leaders have announced exemption from the shutdown of ambulances, firefighters and emergency facilities.
- All the mandis will be closed in many states including Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan. Even milk, fruits and vegetables will be banned.
- Asia’s largest Azadpur vegetable market in Delhi has also supported farmers’ Bharat Bandh. In Delhi, traders of all the mandis including Azadpur Mandi have decided to stop trading.
- At the same time, during this bandh, the pre-determined wedding programs have been allowed to continue. Many taxi unions are also supporting the Bharat Bandh.
- Banking services may be affected on 8 December due to the support of the farmer movement by many banking unions.
- All hotels, resorts and bars can be closed on 8 December except for pre-booked weddings and banquets in Punjab and Haryana.
- The Delhi Bar Council has also supported the farmers’ shutdown. On 8 December, lawyers will demonstrate in the courts of Delhi.
- The Confederation of All India Traders (CAT) Delhi has said that markets and transport will be open across the country on 8 December.
- Drug shops will remain open during Bharat Bandh.

Section 144 applied
In view of the farmers’ movement, Section 144 of CrPC has been implemented in Gautam Buddha Nagar. The Noida Police Commissioner has given instructions to the authorities in connection with the Bharat Bandh called yesterday. At the same time, the Union Agriculture Minister has appealed to the farmers leaders to send the elderly, women and children back home from the protest sites.
