Security was beefed up in the areas around the national capital in view of the Bharat Bandh on Monday, one year after the Centre’s passage of three agricultural laws. Under Bharat Bandh, highway jams, farmers sitting on railway tracks and metro operation have been affected. Samyukta Kisan Morcha called for Bharat Bandh, saying their historic struggle for repeal of agricultural laws completed 10 months today.
According to farmer organizations, from 6 am to 4 pm, everything will be closed across the country whether it is government and private offices, all educational and other institutions, all shops, industries and business establishments, all public events and events will remain closed. . Meanwhile, Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Rakesh Tikait said he was sure that Monday’s Bharat Bandh will force the central government to listen to the voices of farmers.
Rakesh Tikait, who has been leading the farmers’ protest on the outskirts of the national capital for the last 10 months, reiterated on Monday that farmers opposing the three agricultural laws will continue to agitate for 10 years but will not allow the new laws to be implemented. Talking to India TV, he said that the farmers have not sealed the roads and emergency vehicles are being allowed.
Due to the Bharat Bandh, many people got stuck in the jam and could not reach the office on time, on this Tikait said that when there is a lockdown, people are always fed up. When the first lockdown happened, people walked for 1000 kilometers. Today when everyone knew that India is closed and we had asked everyone to leave the house after lunch.
The farmer leader said that political parties used to shut down India earlier also. If there is a lockdown for one and a half years in the whole country, what will happen in 6 hours. We have given a lot of relief. We have not closed the whole of India, the roads around it are open.
Tikait said that in the past also there have been jams for 2-3 kms, everyday in the evening there are jams. It is not that roads are not open today, some roads are open and people are using them. He said that if the government wants to get the paper by leaking the paper by first preparing the document by making a condition, then it will not happen, if the government wants to negotiate, then it should talk unconditionally.
Stating that the movement was not confined to any one region, he denied that only farmers from western Uttar Pradesh were participating in the protest, adding that farmers from all over India were with us. Tikait further said that no matter how long we have to drag this protest, we will not back down.
