The report said that due to the corona epidemic, there was a sudden increase in the demand for medicines, hygiene products and health supplements, taking advantage of which the infiltration of counterfeit products in the market increased further. The sale of such counterfeit goods has put at risk the lives of health workers, patients, frontline workers and common people engaged in controlling the epidemic.
According to the report, in addition to medicines, FMCG products, alcohol and tobacco are the main things in which the market has become full of counterfeit goods. Apart from these, fake currency is also a big area of activity of fraudsters. According to the report, about 84 percent of counterfeit items are related to these five sectors.
During the lockdown implemented due to COVID-19, the supply of counterfeit items increased the fastest, apart from medicines, spurious liquor, tobacco products, PPE kits and sanitizers. According to ASPA President Nakul Pasricha, the demand for these things suddenly increased during the Corona epidemic, due to which the scope of supply of counterfeit goods also increased rapidly.

According to this ASPA report, during the last three years, the increase in the sale of counterfeit goods in the country at the rate of 20 percent annually is not only a threat to the health and life of the people, but due to this the country’s economy is also heavily affected. Damage is happening.
It has been told in this report that the sale of counterfeit goods is a big problem worldwide. According to data from OECD, an organization of 38 countries around the world, the share of counterfeit goods in the international economy is about 3.3 percent. But in our country this problem is taking a more serious form.
