Ranchi : Speaking on the government’s initiative to provide banking services in rural areas, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren said that there was a time when banking facilities in rural areas were extended from door to door. Reaching was like a dream, but today on the initiative of the government the sisters of Sakhi Mandal are making this dream come true as Banking Correspondent Sakhi. Under the Jharkhand State Livelihood Promotion Society, under the Rural Development Department, there are 4,619 Banking Correspondent Sakhi working across the state, who are providing banking services to the villagers.
There are 4619 Banking Correspondent Sakhis working to make banking services door-to-door in remote rural areas of the state. All these BC Sakhis are selected by Sakhi Mandal. The BC sakhis of the state do transactions worth Rs 120 crore every month from rural areas. At the same time, about 2.7 lakh people are transacting every month. Through Banking Correspondent Sakhi, people are now getting banking facilities at doorstep in remote villages. All services like account opening, deposit-withdrawal, insurance, deposit withdrawal of Sakhi mandals, pension and scholarship payments in remote villages are being made available at the doorstep of the people. Due to this, the elderly and other needy are getting their pension amount sitting at home.

Saista Parveen of Littipada in Pakur does a transaction of about Rs 1 crore every month. On the other hand, Nisha Devi of Gumla does a transaction of about Rs 1.08 crore every month. With this initiative, while the village didis are getting self-employment as BC Sakhi, every family of remote village is also getting banking services at their doorstep. Sonia Kansari of Karra block of Khunti district is Banking Correspondent Sakhi. She is continuously providing banking facilities to the people of her panchayat. Sonia is providing door-to-door door-to-door services to the people, from money deposit and withdrawal to insurance. Sonia does transactions up to Rs 25-30 lakh every month. Sharing her experience, Sonia says, “Even in the difficult times of COVID, I am going door-to-door to provide facilities to the people by following COVID compliant behavior. I feel very happy and proud from this work that I am helping people in trouble and earning good income. ,
Due to Banking Correspondent Sakhis, now the helpless and elderly people of the village are getting the facility of withdrawal of pension and other deposits sitting at home. Due to which they do not even have to go to the bank to spend their money.
“Keeping in view the need and importance of Banking Correspondent Sakhi initiative in rural areas, 3471 DG Pay Sakhi working in the state have been directed to be appointed as Banking Correspondent Sakhi. In this episode, all banks have been asked to extend necessary cooperation. Presently DG Pay Sakhis provides only Aadhaar based deposit withdrawal service. After appointment as BC Sakhi, she will be able to provide all the services like deposit, withdrawal, scholarship, pension, transaction from the account of Sakhi Mandal, account opening and insurance. With this initiative, their income will also increase and banking services will be available at the doorstep of the people.”
