Golaghat: A 45-year-old man was thrashed to death by three men on suspicion of stealing a goat in a remote village in Assam’s Golaghat district. A police officer gave this information on Sunday. Two people have been taken into custody in connection with this incident that took place in the presence of local people in Mamrani village of Dergaon police station area on Saturday night.
Pradeep Chaudhary, officer-in-charge of Dergaon police station said, “The deceased has been identified as Sanjay Das. His family members had gone to the police station sometime back. On receipt of the complaint, a case has been registered.”
According to the police, Das was attacked by three men, who are residents of the same village. After the attack, Das was first taken to Dergaon Civil Hospital, but the doctors there shifted him to Jorhat Medical College and Hospital (JMCH). Das died in the early hours of Sunday.

The goat owner along with his friends thrashed Das, leading to his death.” During the recently concluded winter session of the Assam Legislative Assembly, the government had said it would discuss bringing in a bill against lynching cases on par with some other states. All Assam Student Union (AASU) leader Animesh Bhuiyan was lynched by a mob after a heated argument over an accident in Jorhat city on November 29. (agency)
