Lakhimpur Kheri violence case: Ashish Mishra alias Monu, the main accused and son of Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra Trainee, was arrested on October 3 last year in Tikoniya village of Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh in Allahabad High Court, Lucknow. He was released from jail on Tuesday, nearly a week after the bench granted bail.
The Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court had on February 10 granted bail to Mishra in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case. The Lucknow bench of the court had on January 18 reserved the verdict on Mishra’s plea after completing the hearing through video conferencing.
There was a gathering of media at the main gate of the jail, but Monu was pulled out from the back gate of the jail. Security reasons were cited behind this. During this, the media also tried to talk to him, but he left in the car.
Ashish Mishra is accused of killing farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri by ramming a car. On October 3 last year, four farmers were killed in violence during a farmers’ protest in Tikoniya village. Four others including a journalist were also killed in the incident. Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra Teni’s son Ashish was arrested as the main accused in this case.

On October 3 last year, angry farmers were protesting against the visit of Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, who was going to attend an event in Teni’s village, when the violence in Tikoniya village took place. Including eight people had died. The name of Ashish Mishra is also included in the accused in the incident.
The SIT has filed a chargesheet against 14 accused, including Union Minister Ajay Mishra’s son Ashish Mishra alias Monu, in the death of a journalist, including four farmers. Its hearing is going on in the district judge’s court. In this case, Ashish Mishra was lodged in the district jail since October 10. The video of the incident had gone viral on social media, in which a speeding jeep was seen trampling farmers.
The opposition parties had launched a scathing attack on the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party over the Tikoniya incident and are demanding the arrest and dismissal of Teni. Teni is counted among the big leaders of Lakhimpur Kheri.
In 2011, his influence grew after leading the movement in the case of rape and murder of a girl at the Nighasan police station, and in the next year’s assembly elections, he became an MLA from Nighasan seat on a BJP ticket. After that in 2014 and 2019, he was elected MP from Lakhimpur Kheri.
