Amazon becomes OTT distributor in India with the launch of “Prime Video Channel”. This platform means that Amazon now has a video content market for Prime members, with content from eight OTT players: Lionsgate Play, Discovery Plus, DocuBay, Eros Now, MUBI, Shorts TV, Hoichoi and Manorama Max. These names now have access to Amazon Prime’s customer base in the OTT space.
Amazon believes that a platform for multiple video streamers allows customers not to toggle between apps and manage multiple payment cycles.
Speaking to CNBC-TV18, Gaurav Gandhi, Country Manager (India), Amazon Prime Video, said, “What we are building is a market for entertainment video content where customers can watch multiple services on Prime Video. “
He added, “The problem we solve is finding multiple content in one place, which customers can now start using their Prime membership and login and get it as an add-on. can do.”
India has now become the new market for Prime Video channels, a tried-and-tested model in 11 other countries. Amazon has so far partnered with 350 OTT partners globally to integrate Prime Video channels. However, only eight names are on this platform in India.
“We are delighted to be associated with a range of services and are confident that we will increase the selection for our customers,” Gandhi said. He added, “Six of our eight partners in India have also worked with us outside India and the fact that they have chosen to launch it here is that they realize the value we bring with this proposition. We do.”
According to Amazon, with the launch, there will be 10,000 additional titles available for Prime members. Different streaming service rates range from Rs 299 per year to Rs 1,999 per year (MUBI) in the case of Discovery Plus.
Amazon has confirmed that its partners have introductory offers for those who subscribe to Prime Video channels. Given the growing popularity of Prime Video across India, the launch of Prime Video channels couldn’t possibly come at a better time.
