Samajwadi Party President and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has quit the post of Lok Sabha MP after winning the Karhal assembly seat in the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections. SP chief Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday resigned from the membership of the Lok Sabha. It is believed that he will become the leader of the opposition in the Uttar Pradesh assembly.
Akhilesh Yadav met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla in his chamber on Tuesday and submitted a letter of resignation from the membership of the lower house. He was the SP’s Lok Sabha MP from Azamgarh parliamentary constituency. During this, along with the SP President, senior party leader and Rajya Sabha member Ram Gopal Yadav was also present.
Let us inform that Akhilesh Yadav has been elected from the Karhal assembly seat in the recently held assembly elections in the country’s largest state in terms of population, UP. The 48-year-old former chief minister of UP had contested the first assembly election. Akhilesh Yadav is now expected to play the role of Leader of Opposition in the UP Assembly.

Till now there was speculation that the SP chief, who had failed to sit himself after removing Yogi Adityanath from the post of Chief Minister of UP, would quit the post of Legislature and continue as MP. However, today he put an end to all these speculations by submitting his resignation.
According to media reports, after consultations with senior party leaders, Akhilesh has decided to resign from the membership of the Lok Sabha. SP spokesperson Anurag Bhadauria said in a conversation with a private channel that Akhilesh Yadav felt that it was necessary for him to stay in the assembly to protect the rights of the people of UP, that is why he has taken this decision.
Let us tell you that Akhilesh has been a major challenger to the BJP in Uttar Pradesh. His party won 111 of the 403 assembly seats, while the BJP along with its allies managed to win 273 seats. However, a day after the crucial state results were out, he said his party’s performance showed that the BJP could lose seats.
In 2017, the BJP and its allies had won 325 seats. Yogi Adityanath is set to take oath as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh in a grand ceremony on Friday for the second consecutive term. This is the first time in 37 years that a chief minister in the state has returned for a second consecutive term.
