Lucknow : Cash worth crores, found after the raids by tax officials at perfume traders in Kanpur and Kannauj in Uttar Pradesh, created a sensation across the country. A big relief has been given to the cash filled in the shelves of perfume trader Piyush Jain in the locations of Kanpur and Kannauj. The Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DDGI) has filed papers in the court registering the cash of Rs 177.45 crore found in the raids as business.
Now this cash is said to be part of the turnover of the perfume trader. DGGI has imposed a tax liability of Rs 31.50 crore and a penalty of Rs 19.5 crore on this. In this way, a total of Rs 52 crore was asked to deposit the perfume trader. The Jain family has deposited this amount on Sunday itself. After recording the recovered cash in the turnover, the perfume trader has not only got relief, but he has also escaped from the trap of income tax in this case. DGGI has shown the recovered cash as turnover of two firms of Piyush Jain.
Piyush Jain is lodged in Kanpur Jail
The DGGI team raided the home and office of Piyush Jain, a perfume trader and owner of Shikhar Gutkha, in Kanpur and Kannauj last week. While Rs 177.45 crore in cash was found in the raids, 23 kg of gold and about 600 liters of sandalwood oil were recovered. Businessman Piyush Jain was arrested after the raids and is currently in Kanpur jail. However, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) filed a case against Piyush Jain on Wednesday regarding the recovered gold. Jain has been booked by DRI under Customs Act. DRI will investigate this case from the angle of gold smuggling.

The raids have taken a political colour.
It is worth noting that last week the raids of perfume and gutkha businessman Piyush Jain have taken a political colour. While the BJP is telling the said businessman to be associated with the Samajwadi Party, Akhilesh Yadav denied it. While releasing the Facebook page of the perfume trader’s company Shikhar Gutkha, the SP said that he was a campaigner of Prime Minister Modi and had a close relationship with the BJP. Soon after the raids, it was said that the said perfume trader had launched Samajwadi perfume and had close links with former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav. However, the Samajwadi Party has clarified that the Samajwadi perfume was launched by its party’s Legislative Council member and another businessman Pushpraj Jain and there is no relation between the two. Akhilesh Yadav has demanded to make public the call details of the perfume trader who came under the raid, claiming to have links with the BJP. Taking a jibe, he said that instead of SP leader Pushpraj, the Modi-Yogi government raided his own man in a mistake.
