After Telangana, Maharashtra has invited Elon Musk, the owner of Tesla’s giant electric car maker, facing challenges from the Indian government, to set up a manufacturing plant in the state. Water Resources Minister Jayant Patil wrote on Twitter on Sunday that Maharashtra could be the location of Tesla’s factory to manufacture electric cars in India. The Telangana government has also invited Tesla to set up its factory in the state.
Jayant R Patil wrote on Twitter, “Elon Musk, Maharashtra is one of the most progressive states of India. We will provide you all the necessary support from Maharashtra to get established in India. We invite you to set up your manufacturing plant in Maharashtra.”

Apart from Maharashtra, Telangana’s Industries and Commerce Minister KT Rama Rao has also invited Musk to his state and said that the state would be happy to partner with Tesla to address the challenges the company is facing in India.
KT Rama Rao wrote, “Hi Elon, I am the Minister of Industry and Commerce of the State of Telangana in India. Glad to partner with Tesla to address the challenges of setting up a business in India/Telangana. Our state is a champion in sustainability initiatives and a top notch business destination in India.”

Apart from these two states, the West Bengal government has also invited Tesla to set up a factory here. West Bengal Minister Mohammad Ghulam Rabbani on Saturday responded to Musk’s tweet in which the Tesla CEO wrote that his company still faces several challenges with the Indian government in resuming operations in the country.

What is the whole matter?
In fact, Tesla founder Elon Musk said on Thursday that it is facing a lot of challenges at the government level to launch the product in India. In response to a tweet about the company’s plans to launch its products in India, Musk tweeted, “Many challenges still to be faced at the Government level.”
Tesla had last year sought a cut in import duty on electric cars in India. The Ministry of Heavy Industries had asked Tesla to start manufacturing its electric vehicles in India first, only after that any tax exemption can be considered.

Sources in the government had said that they are not giving such discounts to any automaker and giving tax benefits to Tesla will not send a good message to other companies investing billions of dollars in India.
