Coronavirus Omicron LIVE Updates: The cases of the new variant of the corona virus, Omicron, are increasing rapidly in the country. The Omicron variant is causing havoc across the world including India. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the Omicron variant has spread to more than 110 countries. Although according to some experts, the Omicron variant is not very dangerous, but the WHO has cautioned not to take this disease lightly.
Debate on ‘immunity’ resumes
After Omicron’s momentum has become uncontrollable, the debate about ‘immunity’ has once again started, which has become a national issue in the last two years. According to the Ministry of AYUSH, decoction is extremely beneficial in strengthening immunity. Apart from this, the ministry has advised to make a decoction of basil, cinnamon, black pepper, dry ginger, dry grapes, jaggery and lemon and drink it twice a day. Apart from this, it has also been advised to eat turmeric, coriander, cumin, garlic in the food. For the past two years, people across the country have been using these “immunity-boosting” home remedies fiercely.
No magic bullet against Omicron
Meanwhile, experts say that there is no magic bullet or shortcut against Omicron to stay healthy. Dr T Jacob John, retired professor of virology at Christian Medical College (Vellore) said that staying healthy will ensure that your ‘immune system’ is healthy. The immune system is an extremely complex and precise ‘precision system’. He said that it cannot be made only with home remedies and tonics etc.
Concurring with Dr John, Dr Suranjit Chatterjee of Apollo Hospital also said that a healthy lifestyle, food and good sleep are essential to keep the immune system running. He said that I am not against homemade concoctions, as it is not the right way to build immunity. He said that there is no end to the decoction and all such home remedies. These may or may not help, but certainly not in the short term.
Doctor Jacob is anticipating that this year also there may be an outcry in India like 2021. During the peak of the epidemic in India last year, more than 4,000 people were dying every day. Whereas between March and May 2021, at least more than two lakh deaths were recorded. In many states, there were queues in cremation grounds and graveyards. Even in big cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Lucknow, Ahmedabad and Bhopal, people were seen scrambling for oxygen.
