Amravati. Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad burnt the effigy of the Education Minister by protesting student protests in the university. The students involved in the agitation accused the state government of attacking the rights of the vice-chancellors of all universities for their personal political interests. The police took preventive action by arresting the agitating student representatives.
Governor will not be able to make appointments
Some decisions were taken in the state cabinet meeting held on December 15. Under which the state government took the decision to amend the Maharashtra Public University Act 2016 for its political interests while attacking the autonomy of the university. With this decision of the government, the governor, who is the chancellor of all government universities in the state, will not be able to directly appoint the vice-chancellor.
From now on, out of the two names suggested by the state government, the governor will have to choose the vice-chancellor. The state government is completely interfering in the rights of the Chancellor. Alleging this, the agitating students prohibited the government.
Education Minister will become Pro-Vice Chancellor
The agitating students told that, now the government is going to create a new post of Vice-Chancellor in the university, and the Higher and Technical Education Minister will be appointed on that post. The state government is trying to control the autonomy of universities. This will obviously increase the undue interference of political parties and leaders in the decision making process. The Chancellor (Governor) is the head of all the universities, it is also an attack on their rights.
Due to political pressure, this decision may have an adverse effect on all eligible professors and students. Students have to look towards the state government in every decision. This decision is likely to completely degrade the quality of universities. This decision will politicize the quality of university education.
Against which the metropolitan unit of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, keeping in mind the interests of the students, organized a student protest movement in Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University against the decision to amend the University Act in the winter session. On this occasion the statue of Hon’ble Uday Samant, Minister of State for Higher and Technical Education was burnt. Students from ten different colleges participated in the movement. The police have arrested student council ministers Samarth Ragit, Chinmay Bhagwat, Abhishek Bhinde, Harsh Goenka and Harsh Bais.
