MUMBAI: A Mumbai Police constable, who worked as the bodyguard of actor Amitabh Bachchan till August 2021, has been suspended for violating service rules. A police officer gave this information on Wednesday. The orders for suspension of constable Jitendra Shinde were issued on Tuesday and a departmental inquiry has been initiated against him, a police official said. Shinde was earlier posted in the security wing of Mumbai Police. Jitendra Shinde worked as Amitabh Bachchan’s bodyguard from 2015 to August 2021. After it came to light that Shinde’s annual income had gone up to Rs 1.5 crore, Mumbai Police Commissioner Hemant Nagrale removed Shinde from there. After August 2021, Jitendra Shinde was posted to DB Mar police station in Mumbai.
When asked the exact reason for Shinde’s suspension, a senior Mumbai Police official said that the constable had traveled to Dubai and Singapore at least four times without informing his superiors. As per the service rules, Shinde should have taken permission from his superiors to travel abroad. According to the police officer, Shinde has also opened a security agency in the name of his wife who was providing security to the Bachchan family, but the transaction regarding fees appeared in Shinde’s bank account and not his wife’s bank accounts.
