Ranchi : A draft law has been prepared to stop mob lynching in the state of Jharkhand. Today it has been introduced as an ordinance during the assembly session. According to this, the person or persons found guilty in such cases can be sentenced to the maximum rigorous imprisonment for life.
This law has been made in Bengal about two years ago and there has been a provision for the death penalty in cases of lynching, but in Jharkhand it has been limited to life imprisonment. Along with fine up to Rs 25 lakh, movable and immovable property can be confiscated.

The government has already announced to enact a law in Jharkhand to stop the incident of mob lynching. According to the ordinance, there is a provision of punishment in three classes on the conviction of the offense. In this, in case of injury to any victim, the accused can be punished with imprisonment of up to three years and fine up to three lakhs. In case of grievous hurt, the accused may be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to ten years, which may extend to imprisonment for life. In such cases a fine of not less than three lakh rupees shall be imposed which may extend to five lakh rupees.
Entire property will be confiscated on death
In case of death during mob lynching, a provision has been made for life imprisonment along with a fine of 25 lakhs and forfeiture of entire property. Obstructing the investigation process in such cases can lead to imprisonment of up to three years and a minimum fine of one lakh to three lakh rupees.
Government will also protect witnesses
Provision was also made in this law to protect the witnesses and it was proved in the court that if the witnesses were threatened with withdrawal from the trial, they would be punished with imprisonment of three to five years and fined from two lakh to five lakh. Will go
Free treatment of victim in hospitals
Arrangements will be made in hospitals to provide free treatment to the victim of mob lynching. This arrangement will be in place in all government and non-government hospitals as well as corporation hospitals. In this sequence, the state government will pay the amount spent to the hospitals from the compensation scheme. After the enactment of the law, arrangements have also been made for compensation for the victims.
