Akola: Police in Maharashtra has registered a case against Hindu religious leader Kalicharan Maharaj for using derogatory words against Mahatma Gandhi. An official said on Tuesday that Kalicharan Maharaj alias Abhijit Sarag, a resident of Shivajinagar in Akola, made this remark on Sunday during a program in Raipur, Chhattisgarh.
Local Congress leaders on Monday staged a dharna outside City Kotwali police station here against him for hurting the sentiments of the people. An official of the Kotwali police station said that based on the complaint of local Congress functionary Prashant Gawande, the police registered a case against Kalicharan Maharaj under sections 294 (objectionable act) and 505 (statement causing mischief in public) of the Indian Penal Code. has done.

Maharashtra’s Minority Affairs Minister Nawab Malik had raised the issue in the state assembly and demanded that the religious leader be booked for sedition and arrested. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar said, “The MVA (Maha Vikas Aghadi) government will seek a report regarding Kalicharan Maharaj’s comments and take strict action.”
