Nagpur. During the second wave of Corona, ventilators were provided to the government medical colleges and hospitals of the state from the PM Care Fund. Of these, 50 ventilators were received by Medical in the city and 83 in Mayo. After these ventilators, there were 280 ventilators in medical and a total of 268 ventilators in Mayo. But even after so many ventilators, 90 ventilators are still closed. Most of the ventilators received by the medical from the PM Care Fund are lying closed.
In the medical wards where ventilators received from PM Care Fund have been installed, there have been complaints of repeated failure and not being repaired on time. It is believed that the quality of these ventilators is not good. This is the reason why many were closed before use. At present there are 280 ventilators in the medical. Of these, only 216 are started, while 64 are lying closed. The total sanctioned beds in medical are 1,401 but at present there are more than 2,000 patients including 1,700 admitted patients and 300 in super specialty hospitals.
Equipment is also lying closed
In some wards the situation is that 2-2 patients are kept on one bed. This situation is often seen in the wards of the singer. The government has given doctors, nurses and staff according to the approved beds years ago, whereas now the situation has changed a lot. New departments have been created in the last few years. The retiring employees are increasing day by day. While there is an undeclared ban on new recruitment. On the other hand, many devices are also lying closed. Some equipments have become out of date but the administration is not allowing new purchases including repairs. On the other hand, the district administration including the state government announces to provide funds from time to time, but the real problem is not being resolved.
Mayo has 822 beds, 238 ventilators
Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital has 822 beds. In comparison there are 268 ventilators. Ventilators are available for 32 percent of the beds in Mayo. In comparison, only 15 per cent ventilators are available for 1,700 beds in medical. Every day 8-10 patients in critical condition are referred from private hospitals in medical. These patients require ventilators immediately but have to wait for ventilators as they are not available on time. Many patients also die in this condition.
