Pimpri: Since the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Election could not be held on time, only 8 new members will be appointed in the Standing Committee which will decide on financial matters only for 13 days. Meanwhile, the sitting members of the BJP and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and the chairman of the standing committee are likely to be given an additional 13 days so that no one gets upset ahead of the election.
The five-year term of the existing corporators of Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation is ending on March 13. Earlier it was necessary to complete the election process, but due to the political reservation of Corona and OBC community, the municipal elections could not be held on time and the election has been postponed.

For the first time only 8 new members have been appointed in the Standing Committee for 13 days. In fact, the two-year permanent membership of BJP’s Shashikant Kadam, Ambernath Kamble, Santosh Kamble, Abhishek Barne, Suvarna Barde, Bhimabai Phuge and NCP’s Poornima Sonawane and Sulakshana Dhar Shilwant will expire on February 28. Newly appointed members get only 13 days. In that too there are four holidays on Saturday, Sunday, March 5, March 6, 12 and 13. Hence, they will get only 9 working days. Apart from that, it will take three to four days to elect the president. Therefore, only a short period of five working days will be given. Before the elections, BJP and NCP may give one more chance to the existing members so that no one gets angry for just 13 days. As the tenure of Standing Committee Chairman Nitin Landge has not ended, there is talk in the BJP camp that he will be given a chance instead of electing a new president for five to six days. BJP’s Nitin Landge, Sujata Palande, Suresh Bhoir, Shatrughan Kate, Nationalist’s Praveen Bhalekar, Raju Bansode, Shiv Sena’s Minal Yadav and Independent Front’s Nita Padle will get an additional 13-day term.
Tenure of existing corporators till March 13, 2022
When asked about this, Additional Commissioner of Municipal Corporation and Municipal Secretary Ulhas Jagtap said that the five-year tenure of the existing corporators is till March 13, 2022. If the code of conduct for elections had been issued, there would have been no need to elect new members for the standing committee, but the code of conduct was not declared. Therefore 8 new members of the Standing Committee will be elected for 13 days in the February meeting. After that the process of election of the President will be carried out.
