50-year-old border dispute between Assam-Meghalaya resolved, MoU signed in presence of Home Minister Amit Shah
new Delhi: The issue of border dispute between many states of the Northeast continues to be entangled. In the midst of all this, the border dispute going on for 50 years between Assam and Meghalaya (Assam-Meghalaya Border Dispute) has ended today. This ongoing dispute between the two states has been resolved today in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. In the presence of the Home Minister, the Chief Ministers of both the states agreed on this historic agreement.
Let us tell you that earlier, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma met Home Minister Amit Shah and during this an agreement has been reached to resolve the border dispute.

Historic day for a dispute-free Northeast
During this, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said, ‘Today is a historic day for a dispute-free Northeast. Ever since Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister in the country, many efforts have been made for the peace process, development, prosperity and promotion of cultural heritage of the Northeast. ,
He further said that, ‘I am happy that today, out of the 12 places of dispute, there has been an agreement between Assam and Meghalaya. In terms of the length of the border, about 70% of the limit is today dispute free. I am sure the remaining 6 places will also be resolved in the near future.
Every effort is made to solve 6 disputed places
At the same time, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that, this is a historic day for us. After this MoU, we will start the second phase and will try our best to resolve the remaining 6 disputed sites in the next 6-7 months. We will work towards making the Northeast region an engine of development in the country.
He further said, the Union Home Minister also requested to resolve the border disputes between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. CM Himanta Biswa Sarma further said, ‘I had a meeting with the CM of Arunachal Pradesh, where we made a road map to settle 122 disputed points. At the same time, initial discussions have started with the CMs of Mizoram and Nagaland.
Whereas, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said that, we will try to resolve the remaining places where there is a dispute by taking it forward.
