Pimpri: The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation has directed the housing societies that generate large quantities of garbage to set up composting plants by the end of December. However, no action has been taken against any society that does not make composting plants that make compost. After the Municipal Corporation ordered big housing societies to start composting plants, only 146 societies have set up posting plants in the city. While 480 housing societies have turned their back on the project.
A month and a half ago, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation made it mandatory for the city’s large housing societies, which previously generate large amounts of waste, to segregate wet, dry and household waste and also compost the wet waste in their premises. Along with this, action has also been warned against the societies that do not do so. However, out of 626 housing societies in the city, 146 societies are currently running compost plants. 480 housing societies do not have composting plants. According to this, only 23 percent of the society in the city has a compost plant.

Out of 28 societies in the regional office of the Municipal Corporation, 18 societies have compost plants. In the regional office complex, 12 out of 47 societies have projects. A Regional Office has 80 societies out of which only 35 societies have a compost plant. d There are 296 societies in the Regional Office Complex. Of these, only 54 societies have such plants. Out of 76 societies in e-regional office, 5 societies are being composted in very less quantity. This project is being implemented in 7 out of 79 societies of C Regional Office. Compost plant has been started in 9 out of 11 societies in the regional office premises. At the same time, wet waste is being composted in 6 out of 9 societies in the regional office.
