Mumbai: Despite the claim of loan waiver and various schemes for farmers by the Maha Vikas Aghadi government, the cases of farmer suicides are not decreasing in the state. In the four months between June and October, 1076 farmers have committed suicide. Financial assistance has been provided by the government to the family in 482 suicide cases. This information was given by Relief and Rehabilitation Minister Vijay Wadettiwar in the Vidhan Sabha on Friday.
On the third day of the winter session of the Legislature, MLAs Kunal Patil, Amin Patel and other MLAs raised questions in the context of farmers’ suicides. Responding to which Relief and Rehabilitation Minister Vijay Wadettiwar said that from June to October 2021, a total of 1076 suicide cases have been reported in the state. The district level committee has declared 491 cases of suicide as eligible and 213 ineligible for assistance. Investigation of 372 cases is still pending. Financial assistance has been provided by the government to 482 victim families out of 491 eligible.
