Meanwhile, if the scheme is implemented by March 31, crores of rupees can be recovered from property tax arrears, however, sources say, the scheme is unlikely to go ahead again.
In the current financial year, the Municipal Corporation was facing the challenge of recovery of property tax dues of Rs 127 crore 99 lakh 6 thousand 922. According to the rules, the Municipal Corporation can charge interest at the rate of 2 percent per month on the outstanding amount of property tax on this outstanding tax. Due to which interest is charged at the rate of 24 percent for one-year tax arrears and 48 percent for two-year arrears.
The Municipal Corporation had implemented the Abhay scheme so that the common citizens should not be burdened with this interest and so that the arrears of property tax could also be recovered. The ruling party has repeatedly pushed this scheme to benefit the citizens. This scheme was implemented till 31 December 2021.
During this, arrears of property tax of Rs 40 crore 60 lakh 94 thousand 75 were recovered, but still arrears of Rs 87 crore 38 lakh 12 thousand 874 are yet to be recovered. By which the Abhay scheme will be extended till March 2022 or not? There is curiosity about this.
