The government said on Wednesday that it may allow the sale of small gas cylinders and providing financial services in fair price shops. These fair price shops are also called government ration shops. During a virtual meeting between Food Secretary Sudhanshu Pandey and the states, talks have taken place on starting these schemes.
Work will be done to increase the financial viability of government ration shops
Representatives from the Ministry of Electronics and IT, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas have also attended the meeting. After the meeting, the Ministry of Food and Consumer Affairs in a statement said that strong steps will be taken to enhance the financial viability of FPS. The plan for retail sale of small LPG cylinders through FPS is under consideration.

Oil marketing companies promised full help
Representatives of oil marketing companies have appreciated the proposal of retail sale of small LPG cylinders through ration shops. He said that the interested states and the central government would be given necessary support.
Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Piyush Goyal said in one tweet after another that preparations are on for sale of small gas cylinders through government ration. The states and central governments will have to make ration dealers aware about this. He said that his ministry was already making efforts to increase the financial viability of government ration shops (FPS).There are 5.26 lakh fair price shops i.e. government ration shops in the country. Under the National Food Security Act, ration is given on subsidy through government ration shops.
