Nitin Gadkari on Ethenol based flex engine,
The price of petrol and diesel is increasing continuously. That’s why most people are emphasizing on electric vehicles, this will reduce the cost along with pollution. Along with this, the government is also giving subsidy on electric vehicles. With this, the government is now planning to launch ethanol based vehicles as well. In this regard, the government has now decided to allow ethanol based ‘flex engines’ which use local agricultural products instead of using fossil fuels.
On Monday, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, while giving a statement regarding the launch of ethanol based product, said that the scheme will be started in the next three months. He said that there are flex engines in many countries of the world like Brazil, USA and Canada which run on farm produce. Companies like BMW, Mercedes and Toyota are also encouraging the development of vehicles that run on alternative fuel.
Ethanol will be available at Rs 60-62 per liter
He further said that locally-produced ethanol can prove to be very helpful for a country like India which is dependent on crude oil imports. With this, he said that with less pollution, it will also be cost saving. The price of one liter of ethanol comes between Rs 60-62 per liter, while for petrol one has to pay Rs 100. However, he admitted that the calorific value of ethanol is low.
In an event organized by Indian Bank, Gadkari said that Flex Engine is present in America, Brazil and Canada and as Transport Minister we are also going to launch Flex Engine facility for the consumers across the country. He further said that we are going to launch this scheme now and will start it in the coming three months.
Companies like TVS and BAJAJ have introduced ethanol based two-wheelers
He further said that the government has already started allowing 100 per cent ethanol petrol pumps and Prime Minister Narendra Modi has already inaugurated two such facilities in Pune, Maharashtra. With this, he called upon states like Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh to take the lead, saying, “We can make ethanol from sugarcane juice molasses and now the government allows ethanol to be made from rice, maize and food grains. Currently, India allows 20 per cent ethanol-blending in the fuel. He said Indian automakers including TVS and Bajaj have already developed two-wheelers to run on ethanol.
