The Social Security system saw an increase in new enrollments from June to September after the second wave of restrictions eased, and most new enrollments occurred in December.
In the last month of last year, December 2021, about 15.26 lakh new people joined the social security scheme of ESIC (Employees State Insurance Corporation), while in the last month of November 2021, 10.39 lakh were associated with this scheme. From this figure, the situation regarding employment in the formal sector is clear. These figures are part of a report released by the National Statistical Office (NSO). According to the NSO report, after the relaxation of restrictions imposed due to the second wave in 2021 last year, there was an increase in new enrollments from June to September and the maximum number of new enrollments happened in December.

Month wise figures so far in FY22
According to the NSO report, there were gross enrollments of 1.49 crore in the financial year 2018-19, 1.51 crore in the financial year 2019-20 and 1.15 crore in the financial year 2020-21. At the same time, gross enrollment of 1.08 crore new subscribers has been done so far in the financial year 2021-22. The details of how many new members related to the social security scheme of ESIC are being given below every month in the financial year 2022.

NSO report based on these data
The NSO report is based on the payroll data of new subscribers to various security schemes of ESIC. This includes data from the Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) and the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA). This data is being released from April 2018 and data is presented from September 2017 onwards. According to the report, 14.60 lakh new subscribers were added to EPFO in December 2021, while in November 2021 this figure was 12.17 lakh.
